1) Find your images
2) Photoshop your images (cut, lasso, rotate, clone stamp ... use what you know!)
3) Put them all together in ONE LINE- using increase CANVAS SIZE

4) SAVE your final product, post it, along with the originals you used to compose it, in your TEXT WEEK FOLDER and digitally put that in your TURN IN folder.

5) Do one PURPLE SHEET for entire week-
PROJECT SPECIFIC QUESTIONS:
Which ONE of the text week projects was the most fun? And which one was the most DIFFICULT?

TEXT WEEK assignments aren't DUE until a week from today 5-31-19
each one is 10 points = 50 points for the whole weeks work:)

EXTRA CREDIT CONTEST

Check it out!

The link is HERE.

TEXT WEEK #4- School Memes

Today's TEXT assignment is to create 2 MEMEs.

ONE that is made with a photo YOU'VE taken.
and
ONE with an INTERNET image.

BOTH MEMEs have to deal with SCHOOL LIFE.

What it's like being a student-
tests, classes, rules, certain teachers, work load,
fees, sports, clubs, books, stress, dating, policies, lunch, etc...

KEEP IT SCHOOL APPROPRIATE
AND NOT MEAN SPIRITED, PLEASE!

Your MEMEs MUST have outlined TEXT (see below)
10 points

REMEMBER-
all of this weeks assignments (along with the ORIGINAL IMAGES) go into a folder called TEXT WEEK, and you only need to do ONE purple sheet for the week,
THE PROJECT SPECIFIC QUESTION WILL BE ON TOMORROWS FINAL TEXT WEEK ASSIGNMENT!!!

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

TEXT WEEK #3- motivational poster

Go to the following link and check out a few of the
MOTIVATIONAL POSTERS that link an image with
a quote....

HERE

What do you think of these? Does any one catch your attention?
Was it the QUOTE or the IMAGE that you liked???

Then go to:

http://www.despair.com/viewall.html

And check out these posters that satirize this genre.
Do these fit more with your personality?
Or do you think they are pretty stupid?

YOU WILL BE DOING one of these this week WITH A PICTURE that YOU take!!! (or have taken) Think about what text/message/image you want on yours- It is OK to use text from one that already exists, but the PICTURE will have to be one that YOU TAKE!!!

This assignment is about INCREASING the canvas size- your image MUST have an extended border that your text is written on- DO NOT write ON the IMAGE!!! You need a LARGE single word and a phrase underneath it- just like the examples you looked at:)

This is TEN POINTS.

It goes in your TEXT WEEK folder - with the original Image.

Tuesday, May 21, 2019

TEXTra credit #1

This is an optional assignment for extra credit!
Up to 10 points! Depending on how 'professional' it looks...

MAKE ONE OF YOUR PORTRAIT assignment photos into a
MAGAZINE COVER-

(you don't have to type a response to this blog)
You want to have some EXTRA ROOM/SPACE at the top of your photo, for the TITLE, if you choose to do this...

Go to BIG HUGE LABS (here) and use their MAGAZINE COVER GENERATOR.

DISCLAIMER: You may indeed wind up spending HOURS of your life at this site... BEWARE!!!

When you are done with this , just save the final image and put it into your TEXT WEEK folder at the end of the week:)

TEXT WEEK #2- word AS image

In this mini-assignment,
your task is to insert a SINGLE WORD into an image so it BECOMES A PART OF the image.
You will be doing this TWICE!!! for 10 points-
PLEASE SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL IMAGES and post them WITH your FINAL ONES!!!!!
Think about WHAT word to add to WHAT scene?
WILL you have to alter the FONT, size, or ANGLE of the word to make it work as a THING inside of the picture?

DO NOT USE MY TWO EXAMPLES done in class.

The word TEETH becomes the actual teeth in a toothless babies mouth.
TEEF.

The word NAIL is being driven in by a hammer-
AFTER clone stamping out the original nail.

TEXT WEEK #1- attributed and warped quote

THIS IS TEXT WEEK.
Four little daily assignments combining TEXT AND IMAGE.
AT the end of the week, when you've done all 4- put them in a TURN IN FOLDER
in you G.Drive and do ONE PURPLE SHEET for the whole week-
PROJECT QUESTION will be on Friday's Text Week #4 assignment.

Each one is worth 10 points, making this a 40 point assignment.
(there will also be 2-3 extra credit text week assignments posted)

ATTRIBUTED QUOTE

This week is all about combining TEXT AND IMAGES.

Find a quote you can use for today's project -
http://www.brainyquote.com/

Then GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH and find an appropriate photo to insert this quote into.

Here's the CATCH- the TEXT (either the entire quote or PART of it) SHOULD not just be plastered on the image, but WORKED INTO the photo and become part of the overall IMAGE ITSELF.

I don't like to show many photographic examples or DO a DEMO of this project BECAUSE everyone just copies my example when I do that... BE ORIGINAL-

DO NOT USE these examples- But-

Einstein said "creativity is more important than knowledge." So, you'd find a picture of him and have this quote literally exploding out of his head/brain done in crazy energetic colors and fonts.

Lincoln said " A house divided against itself - cannot stand. " So, you'd find a picture of a demolished house and -scatter- the words of the quote amongst the building's debris.

Chagall said
" Great art picks up where nature ends." So, you'd find a picture of flowers, hit it with an ARTISTIC FILTER, and insert the quote into the flowers petals a color shade darker than the petals- or type it in green on the stems.

Don't forget to ATTRIBUTE your quote in the lower right hand corner of your image- That means- TYPE THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO said this quote!

AND- just like the other assignments this week- Post the ORIGINAL and the EDITED-ADDED TEXT image in your TEXT WEEK folder and only fill out ONE EVALUATION SHEET at the end of the week for all 4 assignments...

Good luck dudes!

in a folder called STILL LIFE
(along with the 5 unedited original images)
IN YOUR TURN_IN FOLDER
with a purple sheet filled out
BY MAY 16th

This assignment is 50 points- HUGE!

1)FOOD and/or BEVERAGE SHOT

2)TECHNOLOGY SHOT

3)SCHOOL SUPPLY SHOT

4)SHOES

5)ANTIQUES & TREASURES from the past

Consider looking at the COMPOSITIONAL TECHNIQUES list to inform your choices!

All of these can be single items OR a collection of items, but be aware of over-cluttering
your image IT SHOULD NOT be confusing to look at.

These need to be professional looking and CLEAN- in focus, CONTROL everything in the background, and make good lighting and editing choices!

REMEMBER- SUPER simple backgrounds OR backgrounds that are appropriate for the ITEMS.

USE photoshop to CLEAN UP your shot (remove distractions, amplify color/light, etc...)
If you use photoshop to add text, keep it minimal- the focus should be the IMAGE not the WORDS.

AND - no people please!!!!

THE PROJECT SPECIFIC QUESTION:
Which of your 5 shots turned out the MOST professional looking?
Why do you think it was so successful?

NATURE and ARCHITECTURE assignment

DUE MAY 7th
WORTH 35 POINTS
(see grading criteria at the END of this post)

5 Nature Photos
+ 5 Architecture Photos
----------
10 photos in total!
(...not counting the original, unedited images...)

You can choose WHICH 5 nature and WHICH 5 architecture shots that you want to do and you'll be turning in 5 of each- Make sure you RENAME each shot NATURE 1,2,3,4,5 and ARCHITECTURE 1,2,3,4,5 before your turn them in...

The FOLDER you are creating for this assignment (and turning into your DP TURN IN FOLDER) should be called NATURE AND ARCHITECTURE and don't forget to do the purple evaluation sheet and turn it in when done!

INCLUDE a sub-folder within your folder for the ORIGINAL, unedited photos- Call this "ORIGINALS"

THE PROJECT SPECIFIC QUESTION IS: WHICH photographic genre was more successful for you? NATURE or ARCHITECTURE? and WHY?

THE POSSIBLE NATURE SHOTS:

1) NATURE PANORAMA - this is a photo collage made up of at least 4 individual, overlapping photos. I will show you how to use PhotoShop in class to assemble this.

2)NATURE CLOSE UP - use the macro lens to show us a close up, intimate look at the natural world. An interesting texture, a normally unseen detail, or a peek into a smaller microcosm.

3) NATURE BUG'S EYE VIEW - use the camera lens to get the perspective from an insect. Don't forget, aside from the interesting angle, this photo should have a clear subject matter- what would a bug be looking at?

4)NATURE TAKING OVER - this shot should focus on nature reclaiming it's territory- Ivy overtaking a fence, moss covering a mailbox, a weed breaking through the cracks in a sidewalk.

5)NATURE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT- How does man affect his world? Sometimes he destroys nature, sometimes he controls it, and sometimes he proves to be a good steward of natural resources. What is your opinion? Can you express it in a picture?

6) NATURE WILD LIFE - Find a wild animal, make it your subject. Insect, bird, rodent, beast- This should not be a domesticated pet photo.

7) NATURE SKY - Sunset, sunrise, clouds, stars, it might not seem like it all the time, but there is alot going on up there...

8) NATURE BEAUTY - This is pretty open ended. A beautiful picture of nature makes us all a little more appreciative of the world we live in.

THE POSSIBLE ARCHITECTURE SHOTS

1) ARCH EXTERIOR - Quite simply, this is the outside of a man-made structure.

2) ARCH INTERIOR - An interesting look at the inside of a structure (or a section of it).

3) ARCH DETAIL - This is a close up on a single feature of a man-made thing. The knob on your barbecue, The twist of an iron gate, a fire hydrants bolt... Get close to something, really look at it, and then photograph it's most compelling detail.

4) ARCH SIGNS - Take a photo of a sign. The older the better. The more uncommon the better. Does the location mean anything? The message? Look out for flash glare on this one!

5) ARCH DECAYING STRUCTURE - This is a photo of something man-made that is in disrepair, it's falling apart. Document this item/building that once had a functional use and is now only good for the occasional photographic assignment :)

6) ARCH WINDOWS - This is a photo about a window, through a window, or maybe using a window to frame something.

7) ARCH INFORMAL BALANCE - Whatever is on the left side of the frame should be BALANCED by 'something different' on the right side. Visual weight is a product of intensity of COLOR, scale or SIZE, and density of DETAIL.

8) ARCH LEADING LINES - The lines, walls, beams, fence posts, railroad tracks, sidewalks, siding, or supports LEAD YOUR EYE to a rewarding subject matter.

GRADING CRITERIA:

1) CREATIVITY and ORIGINALITY- this is YOUR work- you looked for, and found, interesting photos in various locations that fulfilled the assignment.

2) COMPOSITION - your work shows a thoughtful consideration of what is arranged in the frame.

3) FOCUS- details are clear, selective focus is obvious if it is used.

4) ALL PHOTOS NEED TO BE EDITED IN PHOTOSHOP WITH THE Brightness/Contrast TOOL (as demonstrated in class)

5) NO PEOPLE! we will be doing plenty of assignments involving people, try and keep people out of this one!
