Anton's Quitting Blog

One of my favorite PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHERS, Anton Corbijn, has decided to call it quits.

He is moving on to music and movies... Too bad, the photography world
is loosing a special dude. He started out taking pictures of his skateboarding friends
and then moved on to the punk bands they played in...

Check out his work (some of it) HERE.

I think when you add black and white it can change everything about a picture. It can make it look more dramatic or calm depending on the picture itself.

Using black and white in a portrait makes it neutral. It can make it so you're not quite sure what to feel when you see them.

I think making the photo black and white simplifies it. When a photo is in color, it can add to it, but sometimes can take away and make it more distracting from the subject in the picture. The black and white in this photo makes it simple, and the subject helps dramatize it.

Whether or not you keep the colors in your picture it will still give off various emotions. But, I think by adding black and white, its easier to dramatize that emotion you're going for.

Black and white makes a portrait look more dramatic. It can bring out more emotions, like making a baby portrait look more soft, or making an adult look more mysterious.

I think black and white gives a portrait more meaning depending on how and where the photo was taken it could add a dramatic effect and give to it much more feeling.

A black and white photo gives a more serious/dramatic/calm affect. It's the opposite affect of a colorful photo which is gives off more energy.

It makes it hard to be distracted by anything in the photo. The black and white keeps your attention on the person or people. It adds emotion where there may have been none if it was in color. Jaelyn A

I think that a picture in black and white make a portrait more dramatic and it gives the subject a more interesting quality about the way they look. It can give them a more regal appearance or it can make them look more plebeian. Savannah R-B

Using black and white in a portrait makes it more dramatic or serious. The lack of color causes more of a contrast, making the photo more eerie.

when you use black and white it adds a certain tone or emotion to the photograph. It brings a more dramatic feel. when I see a black and white picture I have a higher appreciation for it. That one picture could bring out a whole other reel of emotions that a normal picture in color could. Also its so simple, the picture could have emaculate detain that is being missed because its in color.

Black and white affects this portrait by making it pop and making it more dramatic. The theme seems ore old fashioned and almost angry.

I think using black and white brings out more features of a person. You can see more defined wrinkles and there is more to the facial expression. It can also show more emotion and value of a picture.- Sadie H.

Black & white gives the portrait depth and highlights things that people may not see in color. Same goes for the shadows, things are shadowed that are black rather than slightly darker in color. -Liv R

I think the black and white affects how dramatic the photo is, and can create shadows that change how the viewer may feel, like sadness or fear.

Black and white portraits show intensified light and expressions telling a different story then colored pictures. When a picture is black and white it shows more emotion and draws you too the smallest details. Charles B

I think black and white can do a lot for a photo. What like about it is how it makes different things pop out that wouldnt in a regular photo. -Edson J
